Thailand’s Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) wrapped up its 2026 edition of TIME, the Thailand Innovative Meetings Exchange, last week, welcoming more than 120 international media, buyers and global MICE decision-makers to a five-day program spanning Bangkok and Khao Lak from 31 August to 4 September.

Bangkok kept everyone on the move, while Khao Lak slowed everything right down — and that contrast wasn’t just incidental. TCEB built the whole trip around a narrative it calls “Siam Moment”: with Bangkok as the Moment of Pulse and Khao Lak as the Moment of Calm. It’s also the clearest real-world test yet of MaxiMICE Thailand, the national MICE brand TCEB launched at IMEX Frankfurt back in May, built on three pillars: Convenience, Experience, and Impact.

Bangkok: The Moment of Pulse

The Bangkok leg opened with a welcome and Knowledge Exchange session at The St. Regis Bangkok, hosted under the event’s overarching theme, “The Power of Possibilities.” The event opened by framing TIME 2026 around TCEB’s three pillars of knowledge, business, and experience exchange, with 20 knowledge-sharing sessions and one-to-one buyer-supplier meetings running across the week.

Dr. Supawan Teerarat, President of TCEB, set out the convention bureau’s strategic shift from “volume to value” in the meetings economy, moving beyond simply promoting Thailand as a destination toward using business events as a catalyst for long-term economic impact. That thinking played out across the week in what delegates actually experienced: maximising convenience (infrastructure and connectivity), maximising experience (culture and wellness), and maximising impact (sustainability and community value).

Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, welcomed delegates and positioned the city as inclusive and accessible for MICE visitors, citing its dining, shopping, nightlife, and healthcare infrastructure alongside strong air and transit connectivity. For planners, the more relevant detail was on the ground: expanded subway lines, improved pedestrian walkways and bike-sharing for last-mile connectivity, AI-driven traffic signal control to ease congestion, and over 115,000 new street lights for visitor safety. He also pointed to green space as part of the city’s appeal, with over 2.8 million trees planted during his first term and 2 million more planned over the next four years, alongside a free training scheme aimed at upskilling the hospitality workforce.

The session was followed by a Business Exchange, TCEB’s structured buyer-supplier networking format, at Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort Bangkok. Delegates also had a choice of curated experiences through the city, including craft workshops, cultural site visits, and hotel/venue inspections at properties including Andaz One Bangkok and The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok. It was a packed, momentum-driven few days, exactly the energy you’d expect from Southeast Asia’s biggest business hub, and exactly the “Pulse” TCEB promised.

Khao Lak: The Moment of Calm

The second half of the program saw the group travelling to Khao Lak, a beach destination on Thailand’s Andaman coast roughly an hour’s drive north of Phuket, and the change in pace was immediate. Where Bangkok moved delegates between formal exchanges and city inspections, Khao Lak leaned into open-air, activity-led programming, incorporating beachfront resorts and wellness sessions. That shift was clearest in the choice of morning activities on day four, when delegates picked between bamboo rafting, ziplining and rock climbing, a surf lesson, or a hands-on visit to Khao Lak Elephant Home, where guests helped prepare food for the animals as part of the sanctuary’s approach to conservation and care.

Sustainability was woven through this leg too, part of the “Impact” pillar TCEB has been building MaxiMICE around. Delegates were given tote bags made from recycled fishing nets, and the event is working toward a TGO Net Zero Event Self Declaration for its own carbon footprint.

Wellness ran through the whole portion: spa, yoga, Muay Thai, padel, and surfing were all on offer across both the Avani+ and JW Marriott properties. It was a deliberate contrast to Bangkok’s busy atmosphere, and one that played out again at the second Business Exchange session, held at Khao Lak Marriott Beach Resort & Spa and connecting Thai MICE partners with international buyers, followed by a sea-view dinner at The Panasia Grill & Bar.

The week wrapped with a sustainability-themed team-building session and a full moon party on the beach. If TIME 2026 was TCEB’s test run for MaxiMICE Thailand, it’s off to a strong start.
