W Barcelona has partnered with Creast to measure the carbon footprint of meetings and events held at the hotel.
Blanca Serrano, director of sales, groups, shared the new initiative at our inaugural micebook Ventures event focused on sustainability earlier this month.
The iconic Barcelona property partnered with Creast, a technology company specialising in measuring, reducing and offsetting the environmental impact of events, to measure the amount of carbon emissions generated by each event held at the hotel.
Serrano said that measuring the carbon impact of events will create an important knowledge base to help the hotel, and its clients, to reduce the footprint of future events.
“We are measuring the impact of all events, whether clients are asking for that information or not,” she said. “We can then provide that report to clients, giving them the opportunity to offset their impact, and also use them to help educate our own teams internally,” she said.
The move is part of the hotel’s ongoing initiatives to be more sustainable and reduce its environmental impact, which also includes supporting social and community projects such as beach clean ups, working with local schools and providing leftover food to charities where possible.
Designed by world-renowned architect Ricardo Bofill, W Barcelona is located on the beachfront along the famous Barceloneta Boardwalk and offers 473 rooms and 19 event spaces capable of hosting up to 1,250 people.
