Following on from our feature on new London openings for 2022 last week, we explore some of the most exciting new hotels set to make their debut this year across the rest of the UK.
Fairmont Windsor Park finally opened its doors on 1 January, offering 200 rooms and suites, set in approximately 40 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens adjacent to Windsor Great Park and The Savill Garden. Located within a dedicated wing, 15 meeting rooms can accommodate a range of events, including a 800m2 pillar-free ballroom catering for up to 700 guests.
The spa offers 18 treatment rooms, a six-person hammam, a cryotherapy chamber, a 20m indoor pool, a Himalayan salt room, a courtyard hydrotherapy vitality pool and a Japanese Ashiyu foot ritual bath. There are also seven restaurants and bars including 1215 at Fairmont Windsor Park, specialising high-quality British specialty cuisine, using only the finest locally grown produce from The Royal Farms, Windsor artisans and the hotel’s kitchen gardens, and Orchid Tea Room, the perfect spot to enjoy a regal afternoon tea.
Following the success of The Mitre in Hampton Court, The Signet Collection will open its second hotel in Spring 2022 in Berkshire. Housed in a Grade II listed 18th-century building located between Hungerford and Newbury, The Retreat at Elcot Park will offer 55 rooms, an outdoor infinity pool, tennis courts, croquet lawn and walled garden, landscaped gardens and woodland walks. There will also be a spa and two restaurants on site.
The uber cool Hotel Brooklyn brand is also expanding with the launch of a property in Leicester this year. Like its sister hotel in Manchester, which opened in 2020, Hotel Brooklyn Leicester will be inspired by the famous New York borough.
Set to open in 2022 next to Leicester’s Welford Road Stadium – home to the Leicester Tigers rugby union team – the property will feature 191 rooms, The Lair Restaurant and Bar, and American-style diner concept Runyon’s, which will be located within the hotel’s five-floor atrium space. There will also be extensive conferencing and events facilities both in the hotel and inside the stadium.
Meanwhile in Manchester, the Leven is a new art and design hotel, housed in an early 20th century cotton warehouse on the corner of Chorlton Street and Canal Street. Although the 42 rooms and lobby lounge have been accepting bookings since late November, it doesn’t full open until Spring, when a cocktail bar and restaurant space will complete the offering.
Up in Edinburgh, the iconic Gleneagles brand is opening its sister property in Edinburgh this March. The 33-room Gleneagles Townhouse will feature a rooftop terrace with views across the city and a members’ club with access to private spaces and on-site gym and wellness clubs.
The Scottish capital is also the destination for Virgin Hotels’ first UK opening this spring. Virgin Hotel Edinburgh will be located in the landmark India Buildings in Edinburgh’s Old Town, close to The Royal Mile and will feature 225 rooms and suites, as well as multiple dining and drinking outlets, including its trademark Commons Club, which is a staple of each Virgin Hotels site.
Virgin Hotel Glasgow is also set to open this year. Situated on Clyde Street, on the banks of the River Clyde, the property will offer 242 rooms, many offering panoramic river rooms, the Commons Club, bar, restaurant and more.
