For a seasoned traveller like Mister Micebook, it’s hard to believe that there are still destinations out there crying out to stamp his passport. But Slovakia has been one of those, so this week, he’s touching down to check out new hotels in Bratislava.
Oh the prettiness – from the castles and labyrinthine cobbled streets through to the charming old town and the forests set on hills, plus the River Danube and quirky museums, galleries, houses and cafes to explore.
A number of luxury choices abound for discerning Mister Micebook – with Marrol’s Boutique Hotel, a carefully restored and modernised heritage building, being a firm fave. Set just walking distance from the Danube waterfront, this small luxury property is a firm favourite with tourists looking for fine cuisine and service.
Fresh from an extensive two-year makeover, the 240-room Park Inn by Radisson Danube Bratislava reopened last summer. Located in the heart of the historic centre, near to Bratislava Castle and the Danube River, the hotel is well-equipped for meetings and events, featuring five meeting rooms, accommodating up to 250 attendees.
Meanwhile, downtown on the banks of the Danube, the Grand Hotel River Park, one of Marriott’s Luxury Collection Hotels, does what it says on its façade – it is grand in every way – from scale to style.
Offering 231 guest rooms and suites, a riverside restaurant and terrace bar, eleven function rooms plus the incredibly capacious Zion Spa featuring two Jacuzzis, three saunas, a swimming pool and fitness area, this property is justifiably a top choice with large groups.
