He’s a funny man, that Mister Micebook, so it’s no surprise that every year he makes an annual pilgrimage to the Edinburgh Fringe to enjoy the very finest comedy acts, theatre and cabaret. But much has changed since last summer, so a light venue recce will also be the order of the day.
First up, is Scotland’s first member of the sleek Design Hotels group – Market Street Hotel. Set in the historic old town, this boutique property features design classics by Fritz Hansen and Saint Luc while its Nor Loft rooftop champagne bar is the place for elegant lounging.
Ten Hill Place, the hotel that forms part of the Royal College of Surgeons, has completed its £8.5m expansion increasing its number of bedrooms from 77 to 129. Capacity of the hotel’s restaurant and wine bar Drinks & Dining has also been increased – the refurbished space can now host 150 guests.
Set within a Victorian townhouse in a quiet, leafy crescent in the west end of Edinburgh, boutique beauty The Bonham has revealed chic new guest rooms as part of its multi-million pound refurbishment. High ceilings and the magnificent period detailing in the 49 individually-styled rooms are enhanced with a royal blue and deep plum colour palette interweaved with gold and silver threads.
Another recent newcomer, The Edinburgh Grand provides 50 modern and luxurious apartments accommodating from one to six guests within a famous former banking landmark. The Edinburgh Grand also houses renowned steak restaurant, Hawksmoor, along with The Register Club, a sleek new bar and coffeehouse.
And finally, the five-star Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh also has a new restaurant by ‘Grazing by Mark Greenaway’, by the celebrated Edinburgh chef. The menu, which reflects the laidback, ‘grazing’ concept, showcases a mix of traditional, modern and sharing plates, incorporating locally sourced ingredients and unique concept dishes.
