Just touched down in London town… Mister Micebook will admit to something of heart-swell moment every time he’s returning from a trip, circling the sky above his beloved city. And while he’s not alone in feeling proud, the capital certainly takes on a new level of popularity in the summer months when hoards descend from both within the UK and from overseas to experience a classically British summer.
And there’s certainly no shortage of hot new properties on offer for visitors coming to enjoy the London’s summer sporting highlights, from Wimbledon to The Ashes.
However, later in the summer and heading in to autumn, London’s high-end hotel stock is set to boom. This month sees The Standard debut its first property outside the US.
Housed in the former Camden Town Hall Annex in London’s King’s Cross neighbourhood, the hotel will offer 266 rooms in 42 unique styles ranging from Cosy Core rooms to terraced suites with outdoor bathtubs overlooking St Pancras station.
Another historic building, the original headquarters of the Metropolitan Police, will also open its doors as a 153-bedroom luxury lifestyle hotel this summer. Located in the St James’s area of Westminster, the Great Scotland Yard hotel is first UK property to join Hyatt’s ‘Unbound’ collection.
The popular Hoxton brand will open its third London outpost this September – expect a hip vibe and sleek design when the 192-room Hoxton Southwark (right) opens its doors.
Other design-led properties include Shoreditch’s Nhow London (main image above) opening next month and pleasingly offering a British pub onsite plus Page Hotels’ Page8 London opening in September near Trafalgar Square.
