London comes alive when the sun shines, and there’s nowhere better to sip on cocktails and enjoy the best views, than one of the city’s growing number of rooftop terraces. From East to West, here’s our pick of five of the best…
Radio Rooftop Bar
This hip hangout is situated on the 10th floor of the ME London hotel with striking views
across the river Thames and London’s skyline. Accessible via a dedicated express lift from the ground floor of the hotel, Radio is an ideal spot to sip cocktails and champagne or share small plates on sunny afternoons and evenings in the capital. Or head there for brunch on Saturday or Sunday and feast on dishes like chicken and sausage waffles, Scottish smoked salmon Tartine and Kilner jar poached eggs. The venue is available for exclusive hire.
Trafalgar St. James
Located in the heart of the capital on London’s Trafalgar Square, The Rooftop is a space for sipping individually crafted cocktails and drinking in the inimitable city view. Complete with alfresco and canopy-covered seating, the sky-high space lends itself as a year-round experience. Outdoor heaters and blanket selections provide warmth through cooler months. Small plates are available, with table service provided throughout.
Golden Bee Shoreditch
The trendy Shoreditch area is not short on rooftops and Goldenbee’s terrace offers fantastic views to accompany the seasonal and classic cocktails served. The rooftop has heaters and blankets to keep guests warm on those cooler evenings. With speakers situated around the entire rooftop, there’s no need to miss out on the tunes being played by the DJ downstairs. Following a renovation, the space now has a retractable canopy so the roof can be enjoyed throughout the year come rain or shine! Bookings are accepted for groups of 10-40 guests.
Madison, City
Located on the top floor of the One New Change building in the city, directly overlooking the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral, Madison was named London’s second most-Instagrammed spot. With several rooftop terraces offering supreme views across the City of London skyline, the space can be enjoyed year-round with umbrellas and outdoor heaters, with white sofas adding to the chilled vibe. As well as snapping a selfie with one of London’s best backdrops, guests can enjoy cocktails and bar snacks, or head to the large glass indoor area which doubles as a restaurant and classy area to relax when the weather is chilly.
Pergola Paddington
Pergola Paddington has returned for a second summer season having launched last year as a sister outpost to White City’s hugely popular Pergola on the Roof. The 850-seater venue, open from April to October, is set over two levels and brimming with hanging plants and a living wall. As well as soaking up the rays over a cocktail or two, guests can enjoy food from a range of self-service stalls from the likes of Patty & Bun, duck aficionados Canard and Vietnamese barbecue joint MAM.
