Winter weekends away are something of a thing for Madame Micebook and her pals, and this November, she’s heading off to Stockholm for a design sleek break to check out the latest hotels for meetings and events.
Checking in to the newly reopened Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel, Madame will have a chance to see how the 34-year old hotel has transformed following a multi-million pound renovation of its guest rooms, public areas and event spaces.
The new design has embraced greenery and natural tones throughout and inside the 459 guest rooms, wood panelling, bright walls and works by local artists all feature, plus there are 15 meeting rooms for functions.
For a very local experience, Madame’s next stop will be the newly renovated NOFO Hotel & Wine bar, a 109-room boutique bolthole set in a cultural heritage building on Tjärhovsgatan 11in the heart of Södermalm. Expect to see designs by Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen, Tom Dixon and Verner Panton among others.
Another newbie for design fans is the Blique by Nobis, which opened in the Stockholm gallery district in April. Billing itself as a “contemporary community where architecture and design coexists with the art of social interaction”, the property comprises a sleek hotel, two restaurants, several bars and flexible spaces for events – all of which are housed in a contemporary building created by the architect Sigurd Lewerentz.
And finally, while this may be a weekend of leisure, Madame is never without her stylish hard hat and she’ll be taking a look at the Hotel Villa Dagmar, set to open in swanky Östermalmstorg, with 70 dreamy rooms and suites, the Östermalmshallen food hall integrated into the hotel and a spa, flower shop and restaurant.
