As tourism in Greece continues to surge, the capital is enjoying an unprecedented boom of investments in new hotels, with top brands including Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt and Marriott getting in on the action. Here’s just new and upcoming properties ideal for #eventprofs eyeing up Athens…

Grand Hyatt Athens
This summer saw the opening of Grand Hyatt Athens, marking the first Hyatt hotel in the Greek capital and the first Grand Hyatt branded hotel in Greece. Celebrating iconic Greek culture, the 309-room luxury hotel incorporates curated art reminiscent of ancient Athens. Alongside original pieces from the Museum of Cycladic Art, the hotel also showcases a glamorous lobby with an extraordinary art installation called The Coin, which is made from replicated, ancient Athenian coins. The property’s rooftop offers the spectacular Penthouse Restaurant, serving up fresh, seasonally-inspired Mediterranean cuisine, and an outdoor swimming pool with impressive views of the Acropolis. For a more relaxed environment, guests can also dine in the Aphrodite lobby lounge & bar, a modern and comfortable lounge-style restaurant. Event planners can take their pick from seven flexible multi-functional meeting spaces accommodating up to 1,000 guests.

Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens
The iconic Astir Palace has long been favoured by elite international and Greek clientele. Following extensive upgrades to the existing hotel, the new hotel will debut as Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens in 2019, bringing the luxury brand to Greece for the first time. More than €100m is being invested into refurbishing the property, which is located in the area of Vouliagmeni along a pristine shoreline of the Aegean coast. Features will include approximately 300 rooms, suites and luxury bungalows; spa and recreational facilities; state of art conference and event spaces; infinity pools; beaches; a unique beachfront promenade; and more. Select food and beverage outlets, conceived by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, will introduce new culinary dining concepts of local and international cuisines.

Athens Marriott Hotel
The Greek capital welcomed the return of Marriott in May with the opening of the Athens Marriott Hotel, strategically located on Syngrou Avenue opposite the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, a cultural complex designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano that houses the National Library of Greece and the National Opera. The former Metropolitan Hotel Athens, Marriott invested €13.6m to renovate the property. The hotel offers 341 rooms and 25 suites, meeting facilities and eight conference halls accommodating up to 500 people, a Made in Athens restaurant with ingredients from Greek nature, a roof top bar overlooking the Acropolis the Aegean Sea and the Opera and a well-equipped fitness centre.
