Wales qualifying for its first World Cup Finals since 1958, has increased excitement across the UK for this year’s event – which kicks off in five months today!
The Welsh team will join England along with 30 other nations to battle it out on the pitch in a bid to win football’s greatest trophy. The Qatar 2022 World Cup will be the first tournament hosted in the Middle East and the first to be held at the end of the calendar year in November and December.
Eight stadiums will host the matches across five cities in Qatar: Lusail, Al Khor, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah and Doha between 21 November and 18 December. And a whole host of new hotels are opening in the destination ahead of the tournament – many of them five-star luxury offerings.
Here are some of the highlights…
Opened in May 2021, the Banyan Tree Doha offers an oasis of luxury in the heart of the city. The five-star hotel boasts five opulent dining options, 341 rooms, suites and residences, and a spa. It is the closest hotel to the largest fan zone area and well located for getting to the stadiums where games will take place.
The Steigenberger Hotel Doha made its debut in November 2021. Housed in a futuristic building, the property offers 204 rooms and suites, a spa, gym, rooftop pool and five dining venues.
These include Crust, an all-day dining restaurant, Lobby Avenue café, “Genuss” European Specialty Bistro, and OLEA terrace and Sundeck Pool Bar. A 4,300-square-foot ballroom and six conference rooms will make appealing venues for both personal and professional gatherings
Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts made its debut in Qatar this month, with the opening of Le Royal Méridien Doha. The property is in Lusail, a new build city in Qatar which is part of Qatar’s efforts to add over 100 new hotels and serviced apartments to its portfolio of properties in preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The 377-room hotel, which is the closest hotel to Lusail Stadium, features striking neo-classical architecture and connects to the Place Vendôme Qatar luxury complex that is home to 580 retail outlets, fine dining outlets, theatres, office and residential spaces.
The forthcoming Fairmont & Raffles Lusail Hotel & Residences will be located within the city’s most iconic new building, Katara Towers. Designed to look like the scimitar swords of Qatar’s national seal, this waterfront landmark will feature both the Accor-owned luxury hotel brands on either side of the sphere.
A lavishly impressive property with 132 suites, Raffles Doha will feature state-of the-art entertainment and recreational facilities, boutique shopping, movie theatres, restaurants, and a cigar lounge, as well as a variety of meeting spaces, while Fairmont Doha will have 361 rooms.
Opening soon in Doha’s most prominent district, the five-star Pullman Doha West Bay, is a stunning high-rise modern tower just a few minutes’ walks from Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, The Gate Mall and Doha City Centre shopping malls. The property offers 375 spacious hotel rooms and suites and 93 apartments giving spectacular views of West Bay, along with nine innovative gastronomic concepts.
The contemporary conference rooms and expansive ballroom make it an appealing option for business events, while the nine creative gastronomic outlets, gym and spa, and luxurious outdoor pool create a haven for relaxation.
Hyatt will debut its luxury lifestyle Andaz brand in Q3, just in time for World Cup. The 318-room Andaz Doha, located in the West Bay area of the city, will boast sea views and four innovative food and beverage outlets
And finally, The Doha EDITION is anticipated to open in late 2022 in Doha’s central business district, West Bay, which edges the Persian Gulf. The hotel will have 200 guest rooms including 29 suites, two restaurants, three bars and a nightclub and nearly 929 sqm of event space.
