Event planners looking for the hottest luxury safari experiences in 2020 should check out these four new openings…
Kwessi Dunes Lodge, Namibia
Break away from traditional game drives and try horse riding, star gazing, quad biking, a nature walk, or a hot air balloon flight at Kwessi Dunes Lodge, Namibia. Set to open in March 2020, Kwessi Dunes is located deep in Namibia’s striking NamibRand Nature Reserve, a vast desert wilderness of over 200,000 hectares.
At Kwessi Dunes, guests will find 12 cool and comfortable (and air-conditioned) chalets all with canvas walls and thatched roofs. Each bedroom has a separate ‘star gazer’ room, completely open to the sky, and the perfect spot from which to watch the celestial theatre show above. Views from the rooms, the main area and the swimming pool are of rolling desert plains and iconic red dunes against a backdrop of craggy mountains.
Xigera Safari Lodge, Botswana
Reopening in June 2020 on the western side of the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta, this safari lodge will offer the ultimate luxury safari experience. There are just 12 fully air-conditioned suites, each showcasing the finest Southern African artisans and designed to be completely in tune with its surroundings.
With 105 looking after 24 guests, Xigera is all about personalised, flexible experiences. As well as exploring the unknown wilds of Botswana on walking safaris or game drives, guests will be able to enjoy the lily-inspired spa or experience a life-changing sleep-out beneath the night sky.
Tanda Tula Rishile Camp, South Africa
Meaning sunrise in Tsonga, Tanda Tula Rishilé Camp is designed with a minimal footprint in the yet-to-be explored Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. Opening in late 2020, the fully-solar-powered camp will offer nine modern tents for up to 17 and will focus on “fostering connections” between guests, the team and the wild.
Each elegant canvas tent will feature a private deck and en-suite bathroom with an indoor bath, indoor shower and outdoor shower, while the main lodge will offer a bar, lounge, dining room and swimming pool overlooking the Ntsiri Riverbed. Experiences available include bush breakfasts, early morning and afternoon game drives, nature and wildlife walks, private dinners and star gazing.
Pioneers Lodge, Zimbabwe
Opening in April 2020 close to the mighty Victoria Falls, this newly built lodge is located in a quiet residential area. It will offer 50 well-appointed rooms designed in an elegant, classic style, embracing Zimbabwe’s Pioneer era. The main lodge offers both indoor and outdoor dining, a cosy lounge, and a terrace opening onto the gardens and pool area.
As well as visiting the Falls, guests can head out on game drives to spot the Big Five, enjoy canoeing or cruises on the Zambezi River, or take a day trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana.
