Emma Kazemi, senior conference manager, at Nucleus Central, was lucky enough to win a stay at The Peninsula Tokyo at a micebook event last year. She shares her experience of the luxury property and the Japanese capital…

“I went to the micebook event at The Ned in London last January and my name was called in the prize draw for a two-night stay bed-and-breakfast at The Peninsula Tokyo.

I was planning a backpacking trip to Asia at the end of last year anyway, so it made sense to combine that with a visit to Tokyo. The prize was supposed to expire at the end of October, but I contacted the hotel via micebook – they were incredibly flexible and accommodating and extended the prize deadline so I could take it later in the year.

The two nights in Tokyo were at the end of a nine-week backpacking trip in Thailand and Bali so it was really nice to have a luxury hotel to look forward to. I arrived in Tokyo early in the morning, but I’d let the hotel know beforehand, and they made sure my room was ready which was a nice touch.

It’s a stunning hotel and my bedroom was amazing – I had a great view of the Imperial Palace. Although I didn’t get to see the event space as it was busy with events and weddings, I think the hotel would be well suited to groups for both meetings and incentives. It’s in a good location for business, and there were lots of business travellers and groups coming and going during my stay.

The concierge couldn’t have been more helpful as I was travelling alone, and they showed me how to use the Metro and recommended some really good places to visit.

My top three favourite experiences in Tokyo were:
1) Ramen St – Tokyo station. So overwhelming but best ramen I’ve ever had. Such good value £8 for a meal with green tea.
2) teamLab – near Aomori station short 10 min walk. Most incredible light exhibition I’ve ever seen. Only until 2020. Must see in Tokyo! Book in advance if possible. Weekends sell out pretty quick.
3) Temples! I went to around three when I was there. But loved the atmosphere at Senso-ji. Amazing and good for souvenir shopping.

I wasn’t in Tokyo for long but I packed a lot in and getting to stay at The Peninsula was a really good end to a great trip!”
