Madame micebook has used her sixth sense to discover a raft of luxury expansions in this jewel of a destination
The Kingdom of Bhutan, a tiny landlocked destination on the Eastern edge of the Himalayas continues to evoke both mystique and wonder – and justifiably so. Set between India and China, this is a land of fortresses, dramatic mountains, lush valleys, cascading rivers and monasteries, temples and palaces.
Little wonder then that luxury hotel groups are eager to create striking retreats in Bhutan. Indeed, launching this autumn and through to 2019 by Six Senses are five lodges in Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, Bumthang and Paro, with each lodge boasting its own design and feel.
No need to labour over the difficult decision of which one to pick – book a 14-night journey and discover all five of this much anticipated opening.
Also new on the scene is Dusit’s latest Asian property, the 83-roomed dusitD2 Yarkay Thimpu. Set in Thimpu’s gorgeous Clock Tower Square, the five-storey townhouse features an international restaurant, spa and nightclub.
Luxury resort aficionados should check out the boutique Como Uma Paro (right) while fans of the Aman properties will be thrilled to discover the five lodges of Amankora.
On the ground, Designer Incentives can help groups make the most of their trip and explore every pocket of this colourful kingdom.
