Ahead of International Women’s Day, micebook’s Elissa Wilson attended a recent showcase event hosted by our content partner Speakers Corner, bringing together voices from across business, culture and global affairs. Here’s her key highlights from the evening.

On Monday 2nd March, I had the opportunity to attend the Power, Culture & Enterprise showcase event. It was an evening of conversation, connection and enlightening perspectives – a strong reminder of what happens when the right people are in the room.

Kate Bryan, chief art director for the Soho House Art Collection and broadcaster, kicked off the evening with a conversation around why making art accessible to everyone can shift perspectives and create opportunity. She shared that only 15% of children in the UK have visited an art gallery, highlighting the stigmas and stereotypes that prevent people from engaging with art – despite many of London’s galleries being free. She also reflected on her work with Soho House, including one project where she placed 100 pieces of art and deliberately subverted the ratio of male to female CEOs through the gender of the artists.

Sara Davies, entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den star, followed with a candid deep dive into her experience with imposter syndrome, offering a simple but powerful reminder: when you feel you aren’t worthy of your position, remember that you didn’t put yourself there. She also spoke about mum guilt, navigating a busy schedule, and the importance of being fully present in whatever you’re doing in that moment.

Pippa Malmgren, global economist and geopolitical strategist closed the evening by exploring the positives of AI and emerging technologies. From 3D-printed organs to houses that can pay their own mortgage, she painted a picture of what’s possible, while stressing the importance of actively “training” the algorithms we interact with daily — not just to see the news we want, but also perspectives that challenge us. With curiosity as a key theme, she encouraged everyone to stay open to the rapidly evolving worlds of tech, AI and geopolitics.

Throughout the evening, broadcaster Tina Daheley expertly moderated the conversation, guiding the discussion across each speaker’s perspective.

Just ahead of International Women’s Day, it was a brilliant opportunity to hear from women who have built hugely successful careers, while navigating the additional expectations and responsibilities that often come with it.
