Known for its lush landscapes, sacred temples and stunning sunsets, Bali has long been a favourite for leisure travellers and spiritual seekers, but beneath the surface of this island paradise, a major transformation is taking place. With new airports, luxury hotels, high-tech convention centres and a renewed focus on sustainability, Bali is quickly becoming one of the most compelling destinations for international meetings and incentive travel. REALM DMC tells us why the island is fast becoming a hub for global gatherings…

One of the most ambitious infrastructure projects is the North Bali International Airport, which has officially been incorporated into Indonesia’s National Medium-Term Development Plan and set to serve up to 32 million passengers annually. Meanwhile, a USD 360 million investment into the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is reimagining Benoa Port as a world-class cruise destination, which has most recently welcomed Indonesia’s largest cruise ship.

The island isn’t short on options to host large-scale events either. New and revitalised venues like the Bali Sunset Road Convention Center, Bali Beach Convention Center (with capacity for up to 5,000 guests), and the expansive Bali International Convention Centre are catering to larger and more diverse event formats. Looking ahead, the AYANA Estate in Jimbaran will add a brand-new standalone convention centre targeting 2,000+ pax by 2026, making it ideal for international summits and incentive groups alike.

To support this growth, Bali’s hospitality offering is booming. Upcoming five-star properties include Regent Bali Canggu, Mandarin Oriental Uluwatu, FINNS Bali Resort, and Kimpton Bali Ubud, all set to open by 2027. These developments blend Bali’s relaxed charm with refined luxury, offering the kind of accommodation experiences that high-end groups now expect.

Beyond the infrastructure, Bali continues to captivate with its rich culture and breathtaking natural surroundings, two factors that make it especially popular for incentive groups. Memorable experiences include sunrise hikes up Mount Batur, water purification ceremonies in Ubud and clifftop gala dinners with captivating traditional dance performances. The island is well known to offer immersive experiences that connect visitors to its spirit as well as its incredible scenery.

As Bali continues to grow, sustainability remains one of its greatest challenges — particularly in the area of waste management. Indonesia is still among the world’s highest users of plastic, however, Bali is actively working toward long-term solutions to address this issue. A large-scale waste incineration facility is currently in development, bans on single-use plastics have been introduced, and new technologies like solar-powered beach cleaning robots are being trialled. Across the hospitality and events sectors, there’s also growing momentum behind zero-waste practices, community recycling schemes and circular economy initiatives aimed at protecting the island’s future.

Bali’s growing appeal has already drawn several high-profile international events in recent years, and with these developments underway, its global reputation as a world-class host is only set to grow. Bali is rewriting the script on business tourism, and REALM DMC is here to guide event planners through every step of the journey.
