Destination Asia Events won the award for Best Sustainable Event at this year’s micebook Awards for its creative ‘Rice Field Local Life’ in Hoi An experience. We share highlights from DMC’s the winning entry…
Watkins Wellness, a leader in hot tubs and aquatic fitness systems, planned to hold an incentive event in 2020, which had to be postponed due to the global pandemic. The client remained committed to rewarding its team in Vietnam, and in February 2025, 320 participants came together in Hoi An.
This incentive trip was an opportunity to reignite motivation, express appreciation, reinforce company and deepen engagement with key clients and partners, fostering long-term loyalty and collaboration.
The client requested that the incentive connect at grass-root level with the local community, to leave each guest with a deeper understanding of Vietnamese society. Destination Asia developed the concept of a “Rice Field Local Life” themed one of-a-kind gala dinner to offer guests an unforgettable evening, blending local traditions, scenic beauty, and immersive cultural elements.
It was decided that the whole event should have multiple elements of sustainability, which included zero food waste, carbon offsetting through tree planting, and all materials locally sourced and biodegradable. Market stalls run by local vendors ensured direct community benefits, aligning with ESG principles.
Guests were led by lamplight to a stunning rice field setting, where they dined on organic, locally sourced cuisine and engaged with artisans showcasing traditional Vietnamese crafts.
The event exceeded objectives and set a new benchmark for sustainable, culturally immersive event experiences.
Judges loved the involvement of the local community, describing the event as a unique and innovative way to intertwine sustainability with an authentical cultural experience.
