Edinburgh welcomed a new face to its luxury hotel scene on July 1st, 2025. The Edinburgh Grand has officially reopened following a stylish refresh and is now Scotland’s first Marriott Luxury Collection hotel. The hotel is located in a former bank on St Andrew Square, and the property is now one of only four Luxury Collection outposts in the UK, joining hotels in London, Buckinghamshire and Manchester.
“The Edinburgh Grand has long been distinguished for its unique history as the former headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland,” said general manager Emre Pasli. “Becoming part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection allows us to honour that legacy through thoughtful experiences, exceptional service and a sense of place that seamlessly blends timeless charm with the unique essence of Scotland.”
The hotel’s relaunch follows a refurbishment and repositioning to target the luxury extended-stay and leisure markets, but with its central location, spacious suites and exclusive touches, The Edinburgh Grand also holds strong appeal for MICE planners looking for memorable incentive stays, VIP hosting options or small-scale meetings in a standout setting.
Originally built in 1942, the building still retains its period grandeur, featuring sweeping staircases, high ceilings and towering sash windows, which are now blended with warm, contemporary interiors inspired by Scottish materials and textures. The hotel offers 50 spacious one, two and three-bedroom suites, all with fully equipped kitchens, living and dining areas, and thoughtful design that balances with modern comforts. Suites are tailored for longer stays or multi-night city breaks, which would be ideal for corporate guests needing a little more than just a bed for the night. Phase one of the refurbishment is now complete, revealing 33 upgraded rooms and suites, a refreshed front foyer, updated Executive Lounge, improved fitness centre, and enhanced furnishings throughout the venue. Phase two is set to finish later this year, and will see the remainder of the rooms completed and a newly imagined spa area introduced.
As part of its Luxury Collection upgrade, the hotel has introduced several bespoke in-room touches. Guests can enjoy artisan welcome treats, whisky nightcaps, omelette breakfast service – plus a comprehensive pet pack for any furry companions who may be joining. There’s even a 24-hour concierge service to help guests (or planners) build personalised itineraries around the city.
Dining is another strong suit. The Register Club serves up breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails in a refined setting that’s well-suited to informal meetings or pre-dinner drinks and can be hired out for private functions. In total, the venue offers 375 sq ft of event space across two event rooms, which can be tailored to any occasion. For something livelier, Lady Libertine spans two floors and offers everything from coffee and pastries to DJs and live music. Hawksmoor Edinburgh delivers crowd-pleasing food in a stylish, exciting space. For something more exclusive, tucked beneath the building, The Vault offers an atmospheric backdrop for whisky tastings and private events.
