The Maharashtra Government’s Department of Tourism has launched the Maharashtra Convention Bureau (MCB), India’s first state-led initiative focused on cementing the state’s position as a compelling destination for global conventions, exhibitions, and business events.

Based out of India’s financial capital Mumbai, MCB will aim to attract and facilitate international events, building upon the state’s global reputation as a business and tourism hotspot.

This initiative reflects the key focus of the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024, highlighting the growing importance of MICE tourism, and aims to accelerate the growing visitor economy across the state.

Maharashtra is a key economic hub that contributes close to 15% of the country’s GDP. The formation of MCB is a strategic step towards expanding the country’s intellectual capital by drawing delegates, professionals and experts from around the world to promote knowledge-sharing, innovation, and industry collaboration.

This announcement comes on the heels of India’s G20 Presidency and its growing prominence in hosting global events.

Mumbai has already hosted major global events and secured future conventions such as the International Baccalaureate Congress (2026), ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) Annual Conference, International Olympiad on Astronomy & Astrophysics (2025), and the UIA International Forum of Architects (2027), which will all be hosted at the Jio World Convention Centre (main image).

“The establishment of the Maharashtra Convention Bureau is a watershed moment for our nation, state and Mumbai city’s global aspirations. This initiative reflects the growing importance of business tourism in our economic landscape and reinforces our commitment to promoting Maharashtra as a premier destination for international conventions,” said Shi. Atul Patne IAS, Principal Secretary (Tourism).
