This week, we shine the spotlight on London’s Design Museum, which has launched a new event package enabling planners to create their own Burtonesque events. The package has been launched to coincide with the museum’s major new exhibition, “The World of Tim Burton”.
To celebrate the exhibition opening, the Design Museum worked with its event partners to create a Burtonesque world, from canapes and spooky bites and bubbles by Nyetimber English Sparkling Wine to gothic inspired styling and a specially curated dance performance by Trinity Laban.
Tim Burton was on hand to present his works that span illustrations, paintings, photography and sketches from some of the world’s most iconic productions including Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wednesday and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The Tim Burton Event Package
The Design Museum has created a special package for corporate events designed to transport guests directly into Burton’s weird and wonderful universe.
Young Guns are providing entertainment for The World of Tim Burton Event Package which will include Jack Skellington stilt walkers, roaming Alice in Wonderland characters, ghostly string quartets and gothic DJs.
Event Concept will be combining Burton’s distinct aesthetic with bold production elements, whilst Veevers Carter will be styling the event with gothic inspired flower installations and centrepieces. Jimmy Garcia Catering, noted for creativity, sustainability and seasonality, has created a series of menus for every occasion that further underline “The World of Tim Burton”.
Event Spaces
Located on Kensington High Street with views over Holland Park, the Design Museum’s refurbished Grade II listed building – the only public venue designed by John Pawson – offers multiple venues for a range of different events including drinks receptions, conferences, awards ceremonies, dinners, product launches and meetings.
Each event space is housed under the incredible hyperbolic paraboloid roof, an original feature from this landmark building’s former use as the Commonwealth Institute.
The Atrium is the heart of the Design Museum – a dramatic, triple height space ideal for hosting receptions, dinners, awards ceremonies, and brand activations. Available for evening and morning hire, as well as being available for a limited number of exclusive daytime hires throughout the year, the Atrium can cater for up to 150 guests seated for dinner using round tables, 300 seated for dinner using long tables, and up to 270 standing on the ground floor or 800 including the above levels.
The Helene and Johannes Huth Gallery is located on the second floor of the Design Museum. This space was designed to have the versatility of a gallery, and benefits from floor-to-ceiling windows to let in natural light and offer views of Holland Park. It features a retractable wall system, which allows the room to be divided into smaller sections for both larger and more intimate events, has capacity for up to 200 guests seated or 220 standing.
The Bakala Auditorium is a 202-seat theatre style space with in-built AV facilities. This sleek and contemporary space is suitable for conferences, panel discussions, film screenings, lectures and award ceremonies. There are several other smaller spaces, as well as outdoor event spaces.
The museum operates as a registered charity and all funds generated through venue hire go towards supporting the Museum’s vision for everyone to understand the value of design.
“The World of Tim Burton” exhibition runs until 21st April 2025.
