1 Hotels, the sustainable luxury hotel brand, has confirmed it will debut its UK flagship hotel in London this summer.
Overlooking Green Park, 1 Hotel Mayfair’s eco-conscious, modern design will echo its nature-inspired mission, by bringing the outdoors in, and the brand has revealed the first images of its interiors ahead of its opening.
Founded by Starwood Capital Group Chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht, 1 Hotels is inspired by a simple idea: teaching people they can have a luxury lifestyle in a more sustainable way.
Operated by SH Hotels and Resorts, 1 Hotel Mayfair is in a renovated and reconstructed building, with more than 80 per cent of the existing structure retained, saving up to 4,200 tonnes of carbon as a result.
Sustainably sourced and recycled materials have been used throughout the reconstruction process, including the use of reclaimed metal floor tiles, solar panels and large areas of green living walls. Interiors will feature reclaimed Yorkshire dry stone walls, a reception desk created from a naturally felled piece of wood from Sussex, and more than 200 plant species.
The 181 rooms and suites will include living moss walls, timber flooring crafted from fallen trees on the Windsor Estate, and Welsh slate bathroom vanities.
The property will also showcase original artworks which highlight the human impact on natural surroundings. These include Flow by marine-plastic artist Steve McPherson and feather sculptures by Kate McGwire.
1 Hotel Mayfair, which will be the first European site for the luxury 1 Hotels brand, is operated by SH Hotels and Resorts, a subsidiary of Starwood Capital Group. 1 Hotels has projects in development in Hanalei Bay in Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, Paris, Copenhagen, Elounda Hills in Crete and Melbourne in Australia.
