Nicknamed the Valley Isle for its incredible ravines and lush topography, Maui is an island filled with legendary views. The second largest of the main Hawaiian Islands, Maui’s diversity is often the most celebrated feature with small, rustic town charm on the fertile slopes of Upcountry Maui to the airy resort spaces and legendary beaches with iconic surf.

With such an array of experiences for visitors to the island to enjoy, it’s no wonder that Maui is often considered one of the most alluring destinations in the world. Here local expert DeSilva Meeting Consultants, a DMC Network Company, gives its inside guide on how to spend a jam-packed 48 hours on the island…

DAY 1:

Morning
The day begins with an enchanting journey to the top of Haleakalā, translated in Hawaiian to “house of the sun” for the mesmerising sunrises from the top. Ascend past the clouds to the summit of the mountain as the sun rises into the sky painting the clouds below a spectrum of vibrant colours and giving visitors an otherworldly feel. On the way down the slopes of Haleakalā, make a quick stop at Kula Lodge for breakfast, the restaurant originally built as a rustic hideaway in the 1940s with sweeping views of Upcountry Maui.

Explore the property and stroll through the protea flower garden and listen to native birds sing while being surrounded by nature’s bounty. While in Upcountry, tour Maui Ocean Vodka and take in the incredible, panoramic view from the foothills of Haleakalā to experience world-renowned premium spirits with Polynesian sugarcane with a company that is committed to sustainable farming practices and ecological responsibility.

Afternoon
Charter a helicopter experience to discover some of the incredible views that Maui and Molokaʻi have to offer. From the air, explore Kalaupapa cliffs, the tallest sea cliff in the world, while soaring above 88 miles of untouched coastline where waterfalls simply plunge from the sea cliffs of Molokaʻi’s North Shore.

Return back to Maui with mesmerising views of the island’s west mountain range with stunning jagged peaks that are often blanketed by a shroud of mist to end the first day of an incredible Maui adventure.

Evening
Stop by the North Shore for sunset at Hoʻokipa Beach Park, a world-renowned windsurfing spot and sip on a chilled coconut while watching surfers paint their way across the Pacific Ocean. After spending some time at Hoʻokipa Beach Park, finish the night off at Mama’s Fish House, an award-winning restaurant serving Maui since 1973.

DAY 2:

Morning
The mornings are always the most ideal time to explore the sunny shores of Maui for either a morning snorkel or a whale watching experience in the Winter months. With ports located near every major resort town, Maui’s cohort of boat captains and vessels offer some of the best views of marine life among the Pacific. It’s a little rumor that the whales secretly love Maui just a little more than the other islands and often can be found in pods right off the coastline.

Afternoon
For the more adventurous traveler, Maui has multiple offerings of zipline experiences on both the West and South side of the island with ranging from sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean to the lush, tropical terrain of a eucalyptus forest. Get ready for an adrenaline rush and sensory overload with the wind rushing across the face while zipling the course. Thrillseekers rejoice as most zipline experiences have hikes or waterfall dips in a combo tour for those seeking a bit more adventure.

Evening
Commemorate Maui by relaxing through the evening with one of Maui’s many vibrant hula shows or Polynesian reviews. Whether the dazzling display of fire-knife dancing calls or a more traditional hula, showcasing Native Hawaiian history, each show displays iconic local fare that are considered must-haves while visiting the Hawaiian Islands.
