Aberdeen will finally welcome its long-awaited brand spanking new convention centre this summer, which is forecast to generate a whopping £63m a year for Scotland’s economy by 2025. We head to the Granite City to find out more about the major opening and other exciting new developments for meeting and incentive planners…
P&J Live/The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA)
It’s out with the old and in with the new as the existing Aberdeen Exhibition & Convention Centre prepares to close to make way for the new £333m TECA, or P&J Live as its just officially been named. It boasts a 12,500-capacity arena, spacious hospitality boxes, 48,000sqm of exhibition space and conferencing facilities for up to 5,000, and a high-end restaurant.
Located right next to Aberdeen International Airport, just minutes from the city’s new western peripheral route, and in prime position for rail links between Aberdeen and the North of Scotland, the new complex will be easily accessible for UK and international groups and able to host events of all kinds from board meetings for ten up to large conferences, trade shows and exhibitions.
Aloft Aberdeen TECA
The 150-room Aloft Aberdeen TECA is one of two new on-site hotels. A hop, skip and jump away from the new venue, and just a 10-minute walk from Aberdeen Airport, it features all of the Aloft brand’s usual mod cons from tech-forward amenities and live music to urban-style interiors. Guests can sip on crafted signature cocktails and grab an informal bite to eat in W XYZ bar, re-energise in the Re:charge Gym and gather in the sleek Tactic meeting spaces.
Hilton Aberdeen TECA
The other on-site property, Hilton Aberdeen TECA, connects directly to the new centre and offers 200 bedrooms. It represents the hotel giant’s fourth hotel in Aberdeen, joining the – Aberdeen Treetops, DoubleTree and Garden Inn. The property offers 218 rooms and suites and a range of meeting and event spaces including the Robert Gordon Ballroom, which can host up to 320 guests or delegates for dinner. A stand alone, adjoining bar to the ballroom features original exposed brick walls and decorated in sage green with rose gold accents, while the hotel’s restaurant Chop Grill & Bar, serves a menu using the finest locally-grown ingredients combining Scottish and Canadian cuisines.
Chester Hotel
A popular and stylish property set in the heart of Aberdeen’s fashionable west end, The Chester Hotel has 50 luxurious bedrooms and suites.
