Los Angeles has been a hotbed of hotel development over the past several years, and the flurry of new openings is showing no sign of slowing down any time soon. We check out some of Tinseltown’s hottest hotel openings of 2018 and take a peek at what’s on the horizon in 2019 in this week’s micebook mini-list…
NoMad LA
Located on the corner of 7th and Olive Street, The NoMad Hotel in Downtown LA continues in the spirit of the original NoMad in New York by taking residence in the historic building, Giannini Place. Originally built in the 1920s as the headquarters for The Bank of Italy, the building’s gold and blue Italianate lobby ceiling has been fully restored and serves as inspiration throughout.
Designed by French architect and designer Jacques Garcia, each of the 241 rooms and suites feature custom-designed furnishings and original artwork curated by Paris-based design studio be-poles. With sweeping views of Downtown Los Angeles’s skyline and the city expanse below, The Rooftop, with its lushly landscaped pool area, cocktail bar and café, is one of the hippest new places to hang out. With 5,178 square-feet of indoor and outdoor space, it can accommodate seated dinners or large-scale cocktail receptions with a variety of set-up options.
Westdrift Manhattan Beach
The first Autograph Collection by Marriott hotel in Los Angeles, Westdrift Manhattan Beach opened in March this year.
The 26-acre resort boasts 392 luxury guest rooms, a nine-hole golf course, a signature indoor / outdoor restaurant, a CrossFit-inspired fitness centre and more than 35,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space, including 18 meeting rooms, a traditional ballroom and three large, industrial-chic venues.
Kimpton La Peer
Just steps from the vibrant intersection of Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, Kimpton La Peer Hotel, which opened its doors in early 2018, is set in the heart of West Hollywood’s Design District.
The chic artsy boutique property features 105 luxury rooms and suites, an outdoor pool for soaking up the California sunshine, rooftop event space and more than 8,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor dining and lounge spaces.
The Hoxton, LA
Following its Stateside debut in Williamsburg, Brooklyn earlier this year, hip London hotel brand The Hoxton will take its cool, contemporary style to the West Coast in 2019. Located in Downtown LA, the new property will offer 174 rooms spread over ten storeys, looking out onto neon-drenched Broadway in a building that was once the headquarters of the LA Railway Authority.
The four room types – Snug, Cosy, Roomy and Biggy – will all feature bespoke chevron timber floors, bold feature walls and copper and brass details. The hotel will also feature The Hoxton’s first rooftop pool, a lobby bar and restaurant and basement bar for late-night drinks and snacks.
West Hollywood EDITION
Also premiering in 2019, the West Hollywood EDITION – the first West Coast US property under Marriott International and Ian Schrager’s lifestyle brand – is located on the corner of West Sunset Boulevard and North Doheny Drive, where West Hollywood meets Beverly Hills.
As well as 190 guest rooms and suites, 20 luxury residences and over 5,200 square feet of meeting and event space, the hotel will feature a signature restaurant, lobby lounge, basement club, expansive rooftop pool and a six-treatment room spa.
