Incentive groups in search of luxury adventure in stunning surrounds should check out one of these three hot new openings in the emerging and enigmatic Kingdom of Cambodia…
Shinta Mani Wild – Bensley Collection, Cambodia
With a bold claim to offer the “most extravagant tented camps imaginable”, Shinta Mani Wild is set to open on 21 December in the remote wilderness of the Kirirom and the Southern Cardamom Mountains in Cambodia. The second member of The Bensley Collection will offer 15 100sqm, custom designed tents set along a private 4km stretch of wild river, three hours south of Phnom Penh.
Perched on the edge of the sanctuary’s biggest waterfall is the Landing Zone Bar and Waterfall Restaurant where guests will be able to sample locally inspired food with ingredients sourced through the Shinta Mani Foundation and foraged from the surrounding forests. The focus here will be on creative experiences, with options available including spending a day exploring the waterways of South East Asia’s last wild estuarine ecosystem aboard one of the resort’s fully-equipped luxury expedition boats or accompanying rangers and researchers as they study the wild forests and their inhabitants.
Six Senses Krabey Island, Cambodia
December will also see the opening of the Six Senses Krabey Island, set on a 30-acre private tropical island located 5km off Ream National Park in southern Cambodia. The property’s 40 private pool villas boast green living roofs, sun decks with infinity plunge pools and rain showers.
Dining options include two restaurants serving up Khmer and Southeast Asian cuisine, a sunset bar and ice cream parlour. Incentive groups can take part in a range of activities including water sports, fishing, snorkelling, organic farm visits with cooking classes and night sky observatory, or simply indulge in a pampering session at the Six Senses spa.
Alila Villas Koh Russey, Cambodia
Also set on its own private island in the Koh Rong archipelago, Alila Villas Koh Russey opened its doors this month (November). The 50-pavilion, 13-villa boutique resort has a strong Khmer influence and is designed to blend discreetly with the natural jungle-like setting. Regular shuttle boats connect the resort with the mainland, and transfer time to Sihanoukville Airport is 20 minutes.
For foodies, there are two specialty restaurants: Horizon – which serves à la carte breakfast and dinners with an emphasis on French and French fusion fare – and the Beach Shack, a place for guests to kick back and enjoy Khmer cuisine, seafood and light dishes. Guests looking for wellness and rejuvenation can relax in the infinity pool or at the beachfront Spa Alila.
