As the capital braces itself for the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, something rather fantastic has been happening down St Pauls. Across the walkway between Millennium Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral, nine towering wizard wands will light up the dark skies until November 13.
The 15ft high wands are from the Harry Potter films and the Beasts spin-off and were designed to replicate the ones cast by by Newt Scamander, Albus Dumbledore and Harry himself. The installation aims to raise awareness for J K Rowling’s charity Lumos, which aims to end the institutionalisation of children around the world.
Meanwhile, heading (slightly) out of town, the Harry Potter Studio Tour has been given a wintry makeover as it prepares to get frosty and festive.
Christmas trees and a seasonal feast will adorn the Great Hall, Gryffindor common room will be bedecked with glittery decorations while snow drifts should be expected in Diagon Alley.
The beautiful scale model of Hogwarts that was used for sweeping shots over the school will also reflect the colder months, with snow and ice effects carefully applied by hand. Don’t be a Muggle and forget your Gryffindor scarf, unless you want to catch a chill. You’ve been warned.
