Malaysia’s intoxicating and vibrant capital Kuala Lumpur is not short on high-end hotels and event venues, but these three new 2018 openings should be top of the list to check out on your next trip…
W Kuala Lumpur
W Kuala Lumpur opened its doors in the heart of KL, steps from the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers at the end of August, marking the hip brand’s debut in Malaysia. W Kuala Lumpur features 150 stylish guest rooms and suites, including two WOW suites and the lavish Extreme WOW Suite – W’s take on a presidential suite, as well as six food and drink outlets. These include YEN, which offers a contemporary take on traditional Cantonese recipes, and two privately-managed dining and entertainment venues including SAINT PIERRE, a 70-seat French eatery that has already earned a Michelin star at its Singapore location, and WICKED, the city’s newest VIP club.
For #eventprofs, W KL features over 1,500 square meters of function space including the sprawling 1,000sqm Great Room and can cater to a wide range of events from presentations and conferences to receptions and product launches. In keeping with the W brand – the hotel boasts unique design touches. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by larger-than-life traditional batik motifs, a nod to ancient artwork of the region, blended with sleek metal accents. The city’s abundant plant life is pulled into the space via bamboo-inspired chandeliers set against an ever-changing wall of lights.
Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur
Rising 65 storeys above the busy streets of the capital, Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur made its debut in July – the luxury lifestyle brand’s first urban property in Malaysia. Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle neighbourhood, Kuala Lumpur’s thriving business and financial district, the 209-room hotel is part of a mixed-use tower, including 242 Four Seasons Private Residences, 27 serviced apartments, and five floors of luxury retail space, collectively known as Four Seasons Place Kuala Lumpur. Lush landscaping around the rooftop pool and terrace offers an urban oasis, echoing the greenery of the KLCC Park below. Guests have easy access to KLCC Park’s 50 acres (20 hectares) of green space, including lush gardens, fountains, waterfalls, a wading pool, and jogging track.
Acclaimed Four Seasons veteran and Executive Chef Junious Dickerson oversees the Hotel’s culinary offer, with a half-dozen restaurants and lounges including the high-style Yun House for Cantonese specialities by Executive Chef Jimmy Wong, the chef showcase CurATE with its show kitchen, and Bar Trigona, a temple of modern cocktail culture with award-winning Head Bartender Ashish Sharma presiding. Planners have 1,821sqm of flexible, state-of-the-art event space to play with, including two ballrooms and four meeting rooms.
citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang
Following the opening of citizenM Taipei, the quirky brand continues its Asian adventure with a new property in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s fashion and entertainment district, scheduled to open by the end of 2018. Bukit Bintang is also a stone’s throw from some of the city’s most stunning temples and buzzing markets.
citizenM Kuala Lumpur’s 210 rooms will feature all the latest gadgets for the most technically-minded travellers, while the lobby has been designed to feel like your very own living room, complete with designer furniture to lounge on, large TVs to watch, fabulous free Wi-Fi, books galore, and a contemporary art collection. societyM Kuala Lumpur features three rooms for events – two of which are set up boardroom style, fitting up to 14 people, while the third can be transformed into a variety of set-ups – presentation space, mini movie theatre, reception room – for up to 40 people.
