A raft of recent hotel openings is putting Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city and cultural capital, firmly on the global MICE map. Here’s our pick of three of the best for #eventprofs in the emerging but exciting destination…
Lotte Hotel Yangon
It may have only opened its doors a year ago, but Lotte Hotel Yangon is a rising star in the city, having been awarded Myanmar’s leading hotel for 2018 by World Travel Awards. Located close to the city’s iconic Inya Lake, the property features two buildings; a 15-story hotel with 343 rooms and a 29-floor serviced apartment block with 315 units. The hotel offers three lake-view restaurants, complemented by several stylish bars and lounges. These include the all-day dining La Seine; Mugunghwa, a contemporary Korean restaurant; and Toh Lim, an a la carte Chinese eatery. Lotte Hotel also boasts one of the city’s largest and most impressive event spaces – the Crystal Ballroom, which can host up to 1,000 people.
Pan Pacific Yangon
Another newcomer, Pan Pacific Yangon made its debut in November 2017, a short stroll away from the magnificent Yangon River and close to some of the most legendary landmarks in the city, such as the Bogyoke Aung San Market, Sule Pagoda and Shwedagon Pagoda. The 25-storey Pan Pacific Yangon sits within Junction City, an integrated commercial and lifestyle development. It’s double-height sky lobby on the sixth floor offers stunning views across to the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda while the exclusive Pacific Club on the uppermost floor of the hotel boasts spectacular city vistas. The hotel offers 336 guest rooms and suites, some of which offer panoramic river views, all-day dining restaurant Saan, Hai Tien Lo Cantonese restaurant, The Teak Bar and Pacific Marketplace, as well as meeting and events spaces for up to 800.
Located on The Strand in the heart of the city’s historic district, Rosewood Yangon will be the brand’s first property in Myanmar when it opens this winter. Housed in a stunning heritage building that was originally constructed in 1927 as the New Law Courts by architect Thomas Oliphant and Doorman Long UK, the property has been meticulously restored to preserve the essence and splendour of the building’s storied past. Rosewood Yangon’s interiors have been designed to seamlessly blend the historical restoration with contemporary Burmese touches – all in Rosewood’s signature residential style. The hotel will feature 206 spacious rooms, suites, one- and two-bedroom apartment units, five distinct dining venues including a residential-style tea lounge and patisserie a convivial bistro , a modern Chinese restaurant, an intimate bar and cigar lounge, and a panoramic rooftop bar. Additional amenities will include several event venues, Sense, A Rosewood Spa, and a rooftop pool.
