Saint Lucia hosted its annual trade showcase on-island for the first time this month, after over a decade of staging the event in the UK or North America. The inaugural Saint Lucia Showcase International ran September 15–20 and was based at Royalton Saint Lucia, bringing together delegates from the UK, US, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and, for the first time, Latin America.

SLTA CEO Louis Lewis said the move followed a strong response to last year’s UK showcase, where the destination first presented its community tourism strategy. “We made the decision that we should have showcase in Saint Lucia, to allow our market participants to be able to see, taste, smell, interact in the product that we have,” he told delegates at the opening ceremony. Lewis said the timing was deliberate, coinciding with new room stock coming online and the recent formal establishment of the Community Tourism Agency.

The opening morning also included the launch of Below Saint Lucia, a new underwater sculpture park off the island’s southwest coast, described by Permanent Secretary Donalyn Vittet as the largest public sector tourism investment the island has made since 2010, running into multiple millions of US dollars. The dive-only park opens this winter, with a second, snorkel-accessible ‘culture park’ and a third heritage-focused site, designed as an underwater dive school, still in development.

For UK trade, one of the standout threads running through the week was sport. Andy Sheridan, Arsenal’s head of partnership strategy and commercial ventures, was on hand to introduce the club’s destination partnership with Saint Lucia, first announced in June ahead of the 2026/27 season, with branding now appearing pitch side at Emirates Stadium and plans extending into academy exchanges and legends content. That was followed just weeks before the showcase by a second UK sports tie-up, with Saracens rugby club, marking Saint Lucia’s first partnership with a rugby team and reinforcing what looks like a deliberate brand play for UK visibility.

Tourism minister Dr Ernest Hilaire used his closing address to set out the destination’s momentum: year-to-date arrivals up 6% to July, with cruise arrivals up 15% and yachting up 67%. The UK market was described as “levelling out and fluctuating” overall, though July itself was up 4%. British Airways’ daily non-stop Gatwick–St Lucia service, adding 51,000 seats, launches on 25 October, giving the route dedicated daily status for the first time.

Delegates also got a look at some of the destination’s newer product, including Sapphire Sands, the villa-style boutique resort that recently opened on Reduit Beach, and A’ila Resorts’ expanding wellness offering, including the Bluezone Club Residences and TheLifeCo St Lucia. Elsewhere on the itinerary, a city tour of Castries and a corporate social responsibility visit to the Transit Home — a residential support programme for children and young people — gave delegates a look at the CSR side of the destination’s strategy.

Between new hotels and wellness centres, an expanding UK sports profile and a first daily direct flight from Gatwick, the message from Saint Lucia this month was clear: the destination is ready to deliver. For planners weighing where to host their next event, the pieces are now firmly in place.
