The Pig group has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of the 17th century Barnsley House hotel along with the Boot pub, located in the Cotswolds village of Barnsley near Cirencester.

Set in ornamental gardens, created by renowned garden designer Rosemary Verey, Barnsley House hotel has 18 bedrooms and suites, and includes a spa, allowing the Pig to expand its treatments beyond its potting sheds.

Barnsley House will continue to be run by its existing team until 4 February, when work will start to turn the property into a Pig, with plans to reopen this summer as The Pig and The Village Pub.

Chairman Robin Hutson said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have acquired Barnsley House, it has been in my peripheral vision for many years as a possible acquisition, always thinking it would make a perfect ‘Pig’ and we are very excited to have our first pub too.”

The Pig currently operates eight hotels, and The Pig and The Village Pub will be the first of three new openings in the pipeline including properties in Stratford-Upon-Avon, at the end of 2024, and The Pig at Groombridge, Tunbridge Wells, in summer 2025.
