Not every hotel group can say its owners also own a mountain. That is one of the many things that makes The Sutton Place Hotels a little different.

Owned by Northland Properties, the Canadian hospitality group behind a collection of hotels, restaurants, resorts and attractions across the country, the group also owns Grouse Mountain, one of Vancouver’s most popular year-round attractions.

On a recent UK fam trip hosted by Destination Vancouver, I got to experience The Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver and visit Grouse Mountain too.

Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the hotel is perfectly positioned for visitors wanting to explore the city. Just steps away from the chic boutiques of Robson Street, it is within easy reach of the waterfront, Granville Island and Stanley Park.

The recently renovated rooms are light, spacious and comfortable, many offering impressive views across the city skyline. With 350 guest rooms, 47 suites and a further 164 residences, it is well suited to larger groups and incentive programmes.

What stood out most during my stay, however, was the people. Throughout the trip, the team took the time to get to know us, sharing recommendations, insights and stories about both the hotel and the city. It was a level of genuine hospitality that felt authentic and left a lasting impression. If I were an event planner, I would feel confident that my clients and delegates would be in very safe hands.

That service culture is matched by solid meetings credentials. The hotel offers more than 880 sqm of flexible event space across 12 meeting rooms, accommodating everything from board meetings and executive retreats through to conferences, receptions and gala dinners for up to 370 guests.

Beyond the meeting rooms, the hotel also offers spaces for relaxing once business is done including the elegant Gerard Lounge and bar. Guests can also take advantage of the fitness centre and indoor swimming pool.

Food is another highlight. Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar has become something of a Vancouver hotspot and is regularly recommended among the city’s top dining experiences. Led by acclaimed chefs Alex Chen and Roger Ma, the Michelin-recognised restaurant showcases the best of British Columbia’s produce through a seafood-led menu with a distinctive West Coast influence.

For event planners, The Sutton Place combines a prime downtown location, strong event facilities and genuinely personal service. And if your programme happens to include a mountain-top experience, they can help with that too.
