The Power of Events has secured a grant from the Purple Guide to fund 500 work experience placements for young people across the UK events industry, launching formally in September 2026.

Steve Heap, Purple Guide Board Chair, said the grant reflected the need to bring young people into the workforce. “If our outdoor events industry is to survive the challenges of the 21st century, we must encourage young people into our workforce and one way to achieve this is through hands-on experiences on our event sites.”

The Experience of Work programme places young people in groups of 5-50 into real event environments for a day, covering venues, agencies, live builds and supplier operations. Pilots have already run with The O2, PLASA and The TEAM. Four industry associations have pledged places towards the scheme: MIA, PSA, ABPCO and PLASA. Their members will be able to draw down against those pledged places to host opportunities within their own organisations.

The Power of Events says the programme is designed to reduce the administrative burden on businesses, providing guidance on safeguarding, school liaison and risk assessment, alongside a step-by-step toolkit for hosts. Placements for young people are expected to begin as early as November.

Rick Stainton, CEO of The Power of Events, said the events sector “offers such a huge range of careers, skills and pathways, many of which young people simply do not know exist.”
