When the micebook nineteen Shadow Board was formed earlier this year, one of the core ambitions for members was to address the challenges and opportunities for attracting and retaining talent in the industry.
Since then, a subgroup has been working on ways to engage the generation below through a commitment to offering School and University workshops. The group met in person recently to discuss the initiative and delegate for the next steps.
Olivia Unsworth, senior project manager at Top Banana, who is leading the initiative shares key outcomes from the meeting and next steps…
The events industry that we know and love, has in recent years become an industry that is both difficult to recruit into and misunderstood. Perhaps we lost many good recruits to changing industries during the pandemic, or perhaps we need to look to the next generation and invest time into knowledge sharing and opening the doors to the vast world of events at an earlier stage.
The latter is the opinion that myself and some of my peers within the nineteen Shadow Board share. We have therefore decided to orchestrate and develop an initiative to tackle this.
With myself leading the workshops within schools, we’ll be developing engaging content that is targeted at both Year 10 and Year 12 students. University workshops will follow a different format with the hope to expand into more intimate seminar sessions to allow students to benefit as much as possible from our involvement.
It’s important to all of us on the Shadow Board that we show just how vast the events industry is and how many different routes there are to enter. We’ll have a diverse presenting team at each workshop, from content producers to project managers, technical managers to account directors to ensure we are giving a broad representation.
We see this as a great opportunity to shout about our wonderful industry, to meet aspiring events professionals and make connections between them and our agencies.
With teams driving both the School and University programme, we are now full in the swing of our process development. Watch this space for updates on our progress.
