If you had told me I’d be spending my day in the heart of Yorkshire, snacking on nettles, dancing with drag queens, and swapping stories with an Olympic gold medallist, I would never have believed it – but those are just some of the memorable highlights from the Yorkshire Z’Own Launch on September 10th, 2024.

“Whether it’s conferences, meetings, or corporate incentives, our mission is to think and act differently, consistently surpassing expectations by introducing fresh ideas and talent from across Yorkshire,” says Andrew Winterburn, director of Yorkshire Z’Own, a bespoke events agency with a mission to showcase the best from the region.

The event was hosted at The Hovels, a charming venue tucked away within the grounds of Harewood House estate. The Hovels is a Grade II listed converted stable block, which features original stonework combined with a modern touch. This blend of past and present was an ideal place to set the stage to introduce us to all that Yorkshire has to offer.

And indeed, the entire evening served as a true tribute to the region from those who know it inside out. After some welcome drinks and a chance to mingle, we began our tour of the estate aboard a tractor and trailer combo – an ideal way to see the fantastic scenery at a more leisurely pace.

Throughout the journey we were treated to a range of experiences that gave us a small taste of Yorkshire in its most authentic form. First up was a hands-on foraging session where we gathered fresh nettles and deep fried them, whilst learning about the edible wild plants in the region – both a simple (and tasty!) way to connect with the natural environment.

We viewed stunning sculptures created from willow and iron, admired Bygone Classics’ iconic Thunderbird and Mustang cars and watched a captivating dance performance against the beautiful backdrop of Harewood House. It was a perfect blend of Yorkshire’s creative spirit and natural beauty, revealing the kind of unique activities that could elevate any corporate event or incentive trip.

Back at The Hovels, we were greeted with a fantastic performance from two of Leeds’s finest drag artists, followed by an inspiring interview with Yorkshire’s own Olympic Gold Medallist and World Record holder, Katy Marchant. Whilst it certainly wasn’t a typical evening, it did prove once again that Yorkshire Z’Own knows exactly how to deliver the unexpected.

“Yorkshire Z’Own was born out of a deep love for this incredible county and all it offers the business community. Yorkshire is more than a place; it’s a community, a spirit, and Yorkshire Z’Own embodies that. Our foundation is solid, backed by a team with over 25 years of industry experience—all born and bred in Yorkshire,” says Winterburn.

For those seeking more than just an event, but a true connection to a place, Yorkshire Z’Own offers a fresh, inspiring approach that has left a lasting impression, long after the event had finished.
