Birch Cheshunt, the hotel and private members club in Hertfordshire, is to close with immediate effect after being placed into administration.
A message on the hotel’s website says: “We deeply regret to inform you that the owners of Birch Cheshunt Theobalds Park Op Co have placed the business into administration and the administrators Teneo, are closing the hotel with immediate effect.
“We are very sad to share this disappointing news and apologise for the obvious distress and disruption to our members, guests, suppliers and the great employees.”
Meanwhile, a note on the Birch Selsdon website, sister property to Birch Cheshunt, reads: “Milan Vuceljic and Andrew Pear of Moorfields Advisory were appointed Joint Administrators of Selsdon Estates Op Co Limited on 17 November 2023. The affairs, business and property of the company are being managed by the Joint Administrators.”
It is unclear whether the Selsdon property is also closing with immediate effect. micebook has contacted both the Birch team and administrators for further information and comment.
Representation company Vine Tree Connections, which was appointed earlier this year to represent the brand’s hotels in the meetings and events market, confirmed that both Birch Community properties are now in administration.
Emma Waycot, MD and Founder of Vine Tree Connections said: “We are deeply saddened and disappointed by this news. As a valued member of our portfolio, we’ve loved working alongside such a talented team of individuals, for hotels that truly were unique in concept and design; a brand we were proud to work with and represent in the UK Market.
The Birch brand then opened Birch Selsdon in South Croydon this spring, which was the host venue for micebook Ventures in June.
