We’re thrilled to announce that renowned sustainability expert, professor and best-selling author, Mike Berners-Lee, will take a lead role in the opening debate at our inaugural micebook Ventures, taking place in the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool on 31 October-2 November.
The event, which is focused on solutions for transforming the world of business events into a ‘Force for Good’, will kick off with a Cambridge-style debate tackling the topic: this house believes that ‘Without Rebuilding Better at pace & scale, the live business events professional is a dinosaur, facing extinction by 2030’.
Berners-Lee will be joined by experts from the business, science, politics, education and creative industries including Rob Hopkins, director & head of sustainability, AHR Architects – the design brains behind our host venue The Spine, which has achieved multiple awards; diversity & Inclusion specialist Eugene Gilkes of Include Me; and Faye Dyer, managing director at The ACC Liverpool Group.
The debate, which will be moderated by TV presenter and broadcaster Adrienne Lawler, will set the scene for the event and be followed by two days of one-to-one meetings and practical experiences. We will be demonstrating live and practical pathways for progressive change within Liverpool as a destination, fit for 21st-century purpose around themes of Healthcare, Environment and Technology.
Mike Berners-Lee is an expert speaker on sustainability and on how we can address this overarching 21st century challenge. He is the founder of Small World Consulting, which works with organisations of all sizes and sectors, from the world’s largest tech giants to SMEs, and an associate company of Lancaster University, which is a world leader in the field of supply chain carbon metrics and management.
He is also a professor at Lancaster University, where his research includes sustainable food systems and carbon metrics, and the author of three acclaimed books: There Is No Planet B: A Handbook for the Make or Break Years; How Bad Are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything; and The Burning Question.
“I am really looking forward to taking part in the panel discussion about Re-Building Better, because the events industry has such an opportunity to effect how people think about the world,” said Berners-Lee.
