Saadiyat Island is undergoing a transformation into a world-class leisure and cultural destination, which will eventually feature the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum and the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which opened last year to international acclaim. Here’s three new hotel developments for event planners to watch out for…

Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort
Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort – a contemporary beachfront resort surrounded by natural beauty – will open its doors on 11 November this year. In keeping with its location, the 293 room hotel values sustainable tourism and will be free of plastic straws and single-use plastics bottles, making it ideal for event profs concerned about their environmental impact. Located on the ground floor, the 600sqm meeting space can be divided into five separate areas or combined together for larger gatherings and social occasions: the venue has a capacity of 350 seated guests for dinner and is suitable for a plethora of events including weddings, banquets, exhibitions, product launches, smaller functions and parties. Leisure facilities include three infinity pools, a spa and eight food and beverage outlets. These include the chic all-day dining venue White for buffets and live cooking stations; Mare Mare for fresh and authentic Italian summer food; Levantine inspired TEAN for mezzes and grills next to the beach and Al Majilis for coffee and patisseries.

Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas
Rotana opened phase one of this five-star property (main picture above) with modern Arabic architecture in March this year. The new resort features 327 rooms and four diverse dining options, including the signature Turtle Bay Bar & Grill restaurant, Sim Sim all-day dining, Sama Lobby Lounge with stunning sea views, and the Swim Up Pool Bar. The resort features a large outdoor swimming pool, two tennis courts, Bodylines Fitness Club and a mini golf course. Phase two will see the addition of Zen the spa at Rotana, offering 10 luxuriously appointed treatment rooms, and further dining options: Si Ristorante Italiano & Bar, and Hamilton’s Gastropub and Nasma Beachfront Bar. To suit an array of event and meeting needs, the resort will also introduce three fully equipped banquet and event spaces, an elegant ballroom and The Lawn, a spectacular outdoor event venue designed with memorable weddings and events in mind.

Rixos Saadiyat Island
This five-star hotel is also scheduled to open on Saadiyat Island in 2018, offering 361 rooms, 13 villas, five restaurants and a spa. Described as a palatial resort set in lush gardens, awash with Mediterranean style on the edge of the Arabian Sea, the luxury beach property will be Abu Dhabi’s first all-inclusive resort. Mediterranean-style terracotta-coloured roof tiles will feature alongside archways and balconies detailed in fine Arabic style, infinity edged water features and covered walkways, providing a modern yet graceful allure. Meanwhile, the Islamic garden design concept of the Paradise Garden will feature courtyard gardens and water features that provide shade and protection from the elements.
